Just yesterday morning, Parrot made an announcement about the functionality of its new Disco drone. When you purchase the drone, you also get a sky controller and cockpit glasses, which function as an FPV headset after you have inserted your smartphone to it. By September, the kit will be available for sale and would cost $1300.
The controller is made up of two spring-loaded joysticks, built to suit anyone with little R/C aircraft knowledge. The Y axis of this devices’ left control stick is the throttle, while the X and Y axes of the other side are for rolling and pitching. Moving the X axis of the controller in either direction can put the drone into loitering mode. If for instance, you completely take your hands-off and forget to kick start “loiter mode” , the drone will return itself to level and straight flight. This helps you get out of any potentially problematic incident.
There are many other buttons on the controller, all of which have specific uses.
The Left trigger and dial: This button toggles the FPV mode and regulates FPV camera pan.
The right trigger button: The right trigger button toggles your camera phone view.
The Home button: Hitting the home leads the drone to return autonomously to its take-off point and loiter overhead. It can also stabilize the drone and make it climb to a safe altitude before reversing.
Takeoff/Land button: As the name implies, this button initiates takeoff and landing. When in the sky, you can push it again in the event that you have any trouble landing, and the drone will take off, autonomously climbing to 50m and entering loiter mode.
A and B buttons: Programmable A and B buttons connect to the controller via a USB cable, and provides streaming video view and telemetry, including the battery life of both the drone and the controller.
