The AP has examined more than 50 former and current Donald Trump campaign staffers, and while most do come across as patriotic and loyal supporters, at least 7 can be confirmed to have posted racist, hostile, and violent beliefs. Multiple Trump campaign staffers have stated their preparedness for a civil war, stated that Secretary of State John Kerry should be hanged, Muslims are unfit to be Americans and they have also outright ridiculed Mexican accents.
While the AP reviewed as many of 120 staffers that Donald Trump has employed, it has been noticed that most have either turned their accounts to private statuses or, in many cases, have simply deleted their accounts entirely. Republican campaign operatives have stated that the monitoring of social media has been a long-standing practice.
One staffer posted jokes in 2015 mocking Mexican accents with quotes superimposed over a man with a weight problem while wearing a sombrero. Another posted a video of a black man dining on fried chicken and shaming other black people. Many posts were based on the theme of black-on-white crimes, while the anti-Muslim rhetoric has been a mainstream concert that has been prevalent on these staffers social media pages. One of the paid staffers of the Trump campaign stated that Muslims are unfit to be Americans, while another can be quoted saying that “we need Muslim control, not gun control” and even shared a story that centered on Muslims being incapable of being good Americans.
Racially charged social media has long been a source of embarrassment for the Trump campaign. Katie Packer, an open opposer of Trump, has said that the social media posts the AP have reviewed would all disqualify any job applicant looking for employment with the campaign, even if the posts weren’t public. She can be quoted saying “Maybe the campaign doesn’t know about this but that’s just malpractice”
