Fear the Walking Dead a spin-off from The Walking Dead (in only name and concept), is in a strange position and is likely never going to connect to the base show directly. At times, it has done a lot of things better than its original title (The Walking Dead) but after two seasons, the show seems to have shifted off the rails quickly.
To fix the show, the stretch of episodes that seems to have ruined a promising season 2 has to be salvaged.
Get the Team Back Together
One of the strengths of this TV show in its initial episodes is that it abstained from repeating the old trick from the Walking Dead of splitting the group up so we were forced to watch individualized episodes of 1 to 3 characters at once till they got back together. Now it has done the same thing by splitting the group.
The Chris Storyline Isn’t Working
One of the terrible things about season 2 was the weird change of the Chris character from being a calm teen, to an outright psychopath for reasons unclear. The character may be beyond redemption now, but at least, he should be given a redemption arc if they won’t kill him.
Find a Role for Travis
Travis is by far the most confusing character on Fear the Walking Dead. He switches between action pacifist and hero, as well as genius strategist and idiot. Everything about his character is largely inconsistent.
Many still believe in the show. It has demonstrated some unique features using a well-worn concept along with some fascinating characters. But the decision-making and writing are just killing it. Something has to change as we move into the second half of a show that reportedly records about 4 million views over the course of a season.
