Great Britain’s exit from the European Union will not mean it ends, declared on Monday night Italy’s Prime Minister, Matteo Renzi, after his meeting with Francois Hollande, France’s President, and Germany’s chancellor, Angela Merkel.

Renzi declared that although a lot of people thought that once Britain will exit the Union, it will also be the end, this is not going to happen and that they have the ambition of writing a new page of the future.

The discussions targeted economic themes, where strong measures need to be taken and quality investments need to happen.

Francois Hollande also made a point in the discussions, saying that they need to intensify the cooperation when it comes to defense, saying that Europe needs to be better defended, by protecting its borders more and by intensifying the exchange of information.

The reunion between Renzi, Francois Holland and Angela Merkel took place on the Italian island Ventotene, situated in the Tyrrhenian Sea.

On their agenda, they also had discussions regarding the common European security contributions post-Brexit, the European Union defense, counterterrorism, immigrants crisis and relaunching investments. The situation in Europe is unstable since the last events as Brexit, the terrorist attacks that had been happening all across Europe and the Sirian emigrant’s problems about whether they are welcomed or not.

The European Union is an economic and political union formed of 28 states. It first started as European Coal and Steel Community and the Economic European Community in 1958, formed of 6 states as founding members: Belgium, France, Italy, Luxemburg, the Low Countries and West Germany. The Union operates through a system of supranational independent institutions and intergovernmental decisions negotiated between the Member States.
