The pilot was suspended after he showed up drunk before an international flight. They were preparing to take off when one the staff members noticed the pilot’s strange behavior. After they ran a few medical tests, the officials of the airline confirmed that the man was drunk. The 274 passengers waited 15 hours in the airport before they found another pilot. The passenger aircraft was headed to Colombo, Sri Lanka.
“Upon receiving the results SriLankan Airlines took immediate steps to suspend the services of the said captain and took alternative measures to operate the flight to Colombo,” said one of the Sri Lanka spokesmen.
Although he was heavily intoxicated, the pilot of the A330 Airbus insisted on installing in the cabin crew and leave the city of Frankfurt as soon as possible. According to the German press, the identity of the pilot was not revealed.
The popular airline was launched in 1979 and it was initially named as Air Lanka. After the Indian company was purchased and re-branded by Emirates, Srilankan Airlines became one of the most successful companies in India.
Currently, the Colombo-based airline operates 33 different destinations.
According to officials, the visibly drunk pilot failed the breathalyzer test and was suspended.
“SriLankan Airlines has a well-established strict substance abuse policy that is designed to put the safety of our customers and employees first.”, added the Indian company in order to reassure their customers regarding the quality of their services.
