A company known as NSO Group has designed a way to hack iPhones. The Israel based company were discovered as they tried to hack the phone of a United Arab Emirates human rights activist. This moved apple on Thursday to send out a software update that they say is crucial.

This group has been known to deal with state-of-the-art hacking software that they sell to intelligence agencies, governments and military outfits. They are also known to change their name from time to time to stay under the radar and this has enabled them to grow their network and be known by just those who require their services.

Some entrepreneurs who had ties with the Israeli government, came together and formed this group in 2009, two known cofounders and majority shareholders are Shalev Hulio and Omri Lavie. Their social media profiles show that they have ties to the Israeli government and military. They are also deeply linked with the National Security Division in Israel. A well-known private equity firm in San Francisco, Francisco Partners, bought into NSO in 2014 with a huge sum of $120 million.

The company parades itself as “A company that handles security research and offers quality Internet security software solutions. A company that has excelled in the area of mobile and PC development and also render solutions in the mobile and PC based environments”. This company is growing and provides jobs to over 120 people. Privacy International however, uploaded a brochure that proves that mobile hacking is the major solution they offer to majorly law enforcement agencies, intelligence agencies and governments. They also make millions of dollars through the sale of their software to different agencies around the world.
