Barely a day after a child bomber killed over 54 people at a wedding held in Turkey, another bomb blast was averted in Iraq. On Sunday, a video footage aired a news station, Kurdistan 24, showed Iraqi police removing an explosive belt from a suspected child bomber. The 15-year-old child suspect was arrested in Kirkuk on his way to Shia mosque, which was presumed to be his target. The Kirkuk authorities reported that the boy must have entered Kirkuk from Mosul, a major stronghold of an Islamic extremist group known as ISIS.

The Governor of Kirkuk Governorate, Najmaldin Karim who spoke to CNN about the incident, disclosed that the boy was trained by ISIS. Karim added that the terrorist group brainwash the children they use for such violent operations. The terrorist group recruits children as soldiers. These children who are known as “Cubs of the Caliphate” are indoctrinated by the terrorist organization to carry out their deadly and violent missions. They are forced to accept the group’s ideology. The terrorists threaten the children, and cause them bodily harm just to subdue the other recruits and get them to participate and accept their cause.

The recent incidents have confirmed that these children are not only used in execution of prisoners as shown in the footage, but are also used to perform their deadly acts. Previously, there have been reports on how children are recruited as soldiers in Nigeria and Somalia by Boko Haram and Al-Shabaab respectively. These children are separated from their families and used by these extremists. Child soldiers who were used as suicide bombers were killed by the detonated IED’s. This inhuman treatment to these children has become a major concern to human rights organizations.
