Vladimir Putin wants to build a casino and a gambling center in one of Russia’s most dangerous districts.
According to Bloomberg Putin is set to initiate the project in Vladivostok.
After the Russian petrol price dropped significantly and several Western countries “assaulted” the Russian state with billion dollars tax fees, the eccentric state leader plans to inaugurate the gambling city in order to attract important Asian investors.
The port-city with 600,000 inhabitants will benefit from a complete makeover and will serve as the new home of numerous Chinese tycoons.
The unusual idea also comes with risks. By attracting Asian investors, the Russian port city will constantly depend on from Chinese funding.
“The Chinese are coming! They understood that Russia is weakened and China is getting stronger. China is going to control these territories in the next 100-150 years”, said Russian lawyer Nikolai Markovtsev.
“The application process is smooth and there is a minimum of red tape, which is unusual in Russia,” Markov said. “So far the level of interest has been high, but many investors want to see how the zone develops before they move in.”
In 2011, during his call-in annual show, Putin himself admitted that corruption rate in Vladivostok is at its highest.
Apparently, the port-city is so dangerous that it deserves its reputation as the crime capital of the country. But these “slight details” don’t represent an actual inconvenience for Putin’s plan.
Putin, who’s forging closer ties with China in part to challenge what he considers U.S. global hegemony, has more immediate concerns.
