Ten years ago, a wave of European entrepreneurs and technologists packed their stuff and headed to Silicon Valley. They were fascinated by the start-up explosion and the frenzy revolving around Apple’s first masterpiece: iPhone.

One of those daydreamers was Balderton Capital associate Lars Fjeldsoe-Nielsen. Now, we are dealing with a similar revolution only, this time, the craziness is located across the Atlantic.

The successful businessmen from Europe were proclaimed local heroes. Technological frenzies such as Stockholm’s Spotify and London’s Deep Mind and Deliveroo are due to a less noticed trend: the flow of European entrepreneurs who choose to flee Silicon Valley in order to return to their native countries.  They return with major experience and knowledge, the right business connections and last but not last… global ambition. This impact is so massive, it almost cannot be estimated, says Fjeldsoe-Nielsen.

Ten years ago, for most Europeans, arriving in Silicon Valley the massive culture change took a toll on some of them. For 23-year-old Lars, to see how attached Americans are to networking and their crazy pace regarding almost any activity came as a shock.

Their mentality, considered strange for Europe, generated a wider way of seeing and observing things, added Lars Fjeldsoe-Nielsen.

‘In 2015, after working at Uber and Dropbox and for a short period for WhatsApp, I decided it’s the moment to return home. After my arrival in London, I quickly realized that I turned into a tech ecosystem’, revealed the businessman. In his opinion, this cultural transformation is due to the entrepreneurs who decided to return home little by little.
