This season, UK football clubs established a new record.
They spent more than £1 billion pounds sterling on new players.
The previous record of £870 million, set last year, was passed on Thursday, six days before transfer deadline day.
The last Premier League club that reported a new acquisition was Arsenal, paying more than £52 million for Valencia star Shkodran Mustafi and Lucas Perez from Deportivo La Coruna.
Just before midnight, Chelsea brought back Brazilian quarterback David Luiz from Paris Saint-Germain in exchange of a whopping £37 million.
In 2014, the prestigious British club sold Luiz for more than €50 million.
Earlier this month, Manchester United registered the most expensive transfer in the football history after they paying up €120 million for Juventus star Paul Pogba.
Manchester United struggled to put their hands on the 23-year-old talented midfielder. According to his manager, Zinedine Zidane was very interested in Pogba for Real Madrid, but the talented footballer chose the “red devils”.
In the upcoming season, Premier League clubs will score more than £5.1billion only from the television deals with Sky and BT, meaning they will have more spending power.
Premier League clubs are able to spend lavishly as all 20 teams have a guaranteed £100m in television rights. The clubs will further benefit from deals for overseas screening rights of up to £3bn.
According to FT, British football clubs are the richest in the world. Their most recent broadcasting deals showed the financial strength between the Premier League and other European teams.
