You quit smoking and are very proud of it? But lately the idea to stop smoking a cigarette without anybody knowing still germinates in your head? In this case, you are in danger to start smoking again!
There are many unexpected factors that “trigger” your appetite for smoking, forcing you to start smoking again.
Here are some tips to avoid this danger:
– Don’t buy cigarettes on the idea that “if I know I have them” will calm myself. On the contrary, in a moment of weakness, nervousness, and boredom you will just go back to it!
– Focus on the benefits of stop smoking – nice smell in your house, the car, in your hair and your clothes, pleasant breath, healthier lifestyle and so on.
– If you feel the urge to smoke, breathe deeply. Keep the air in the lungs for 10 seconds, then release it slowly. Repeat this several times until the urge to smoke is gone.
– Go to the dentist for dental cleaning and teeth whitening. Remind yourself that smoking destroys your teeth, so it is not a habit that brings you any advantage from this point of view.
– Keep your hands busy. Draw, play something on the computer alone or with a friend, play a new game in two (tennis, chess, backgammon, etc.)
– Spend more time outdoors working out – jogging, hiking, biking, whatever you like. Breathing outdoor fortify the lungs and cuts your “appetite” for smoking.
– If you live with a smoker you have one as an office colleague, ask them not to smoke in your presence.
– Try to avoid places, people or situations you associate with smoking. Spend as much time with nonsmokers or children, go in places where smoking is not allowed, such as the cinema, nonsmoking restaurants, museums, various shops or libraries.
– Do not replace cigarettes with sweet food. Eat foods with low calories, healthy foods (such as carrots or celery, sugarless candy) or chewing gum when the urge to smoke increases.
– Make a calculation of the cost of smoking per month and donate the money to a cause or a family in need. Do not buy yourself anything, but give away.
