A rally held in Sao Paulo, the largest city in Brazil, regarding President Dilma Rousseff’s dismissal degenerated into violence on Wednesday night between protesters and the armed security forces, who used tear gas.
Photos published by the local TV stations are showing up protesters smashing windows, vandalizing shops and dumpsters on fire.
Meanwhile, the police, in special equipment, blocked the major thoroughfares of the city and tried to disperse the demonstrators using tear gas and stun.
Protesters smashed windows of at least a police car and tried to overthrow it.
It is unclear if anyone was hurt during the violence or whether arrests were made.
Former Brazilian president Dilma Rousseff was dismissed from office by the Senate on Wednesday, which found her guilty of cosmeticizing the budget.
The Senate puts an ending on this way, after six days of trial, of 13 years since the Workers Party was in power.
Rousseff rejects the accusations against her and announced she will appeal the decision.
Rousseff, aged 68, a former member of the guerrilla, who was imprisoned and tortured during the military dictatorship (1964-1985), is the first woman elected to lead Brazil.
She became the acting president of Brazil on 1 January 2011. She is the 36th President of Brazil and the first woman in this position. She was re-elected in the second round on 26 October 2014 for a new term as president of Brazil.
When she became the most unpopular president in the recent history of Brazil, Dilma Rousseff has been the subject of proceedings for dismissal, for falsifying public accounts. The Senate suspended her from the office on 12 May 2016 with 55 votes in favor and 22 against, for 180 days. Acting Vice President Michel Temer fulfills for now as president.
