Last polls showed that the German people are less interested in keeping her as a Chancellor.
Although the numbers are truly disappointing, that doesn’t seem to bother Ms. Merkel.
According to Bloomberg, the chances for her to enter in a new political race are pretty high.
After her rival from the AfD Party used her incompetence to manage the refugee issue as an advantage to surpass her, his obvious achievement raised concerns regarding Merkel’s capacity to win another public election.
After the results are an incontestable proof of her defeat, Merkel used a series of press statements and interviews to announce that she’s not giving up at her refugee policy.
“She doesn’t have a rival so there’s nothing else to do. They don’t have another choice but to let her finish her legal commissions”, added Berenberg Bank economist Holger Schmieding.
A year after her controversial decision to let the refugees establish in Germany, Merkel’s popularity dropped significantly.
The latest blow for Angela Merkel’s party was this weekend when her supporters barely made it on the third place. Analysts are seriously questioning how much longer the German chancellor’s refugee policy can stay intact and how long she can stay in power. According to Reuters, Merkel’s CDU reported 19% of the vote, marking their worst result in the party’s history.
The AfD has done particularly well in the former Communist East German regions, such as Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Sachsen Anhalt.
