Known as Blühendes Barock (The Flourishing Baroque), these gardens from the Ludwigsburg Palace from Germany became famous for the largest and most beautiful floral spectacle in the world. Right before the fall seasons installs in the region, the beautiful flowers are replaced with ginormous pumpkins from the Ludwigsburg Pumpkin Festival.
The Baroque Ludwigsburg gardens attract more than 500,000 visitors per year. On this time of the year, this place is literally ‘invaded’ by hundreds and thousands of pumpkins, who are competing for a world record.
The 16th edition of the Ludwigsburg Pumpkin Festival held in Barock Blühendes begins on September 2 and is closing its doors on November 6. Farmer Mathias Willemijns submitted in the competition a pumpkin that weighs no less than 1190.5 kg.
The organizers of the competition labeled this as one ‘fabulous’, especially because the impressive pumpkin broke all the records. His ‘owner’ received a 10,000 euros bonus
Mathias Willemijns’ giant pumpkin beat numerous reputable breeders from Netherlands, Switzerland, Slovenia, Italy, Austria and Germany, which presented with huge specimens, but not as impressive as the one brought by the Belgian.
The second position was occupied by German Matthias Würsching with his 895.5 kg pumpkin followed by Berrens Luc (Belgium) with a pumpkin that weighed 812.6 kg.
The specimen that broke the world record can be admired until the end of the exhibition from Ludwigsburg, which closes its doors on November 6. The organizers stated that the record established by the Belgian farmer is going to be extremely difficult to surpass.
