At the beginning of the year, Mark Zuckerberg has made one of his goals clear: fight against globalization. The Facebook CEO and founder posted a lengthy letter to the users of the social media network, in which he reveals his vision for a new world.
The letter has 5,700 words and is dedicated to the community. He says that his goal is to connect the world and that is what he hopes to do with Facebook, but then he asks himself if this world is really the one we want.
Mark takes history as an example of how people managed to evolve in communities and how together they achieved things that a single one could have never.
Zuckerberg addresses some of the issues the world confronts with and tries to fight: terrorism, poverty, climate change amongst others. Everyone wants peace to be reached along with freedom.
Although Facebook has started as a company that wants to bring people closer and it managed to do, now, globalization stands in the way of forming communities.
He wants people to get involved so that a global community can form.
Until now his company tried to bring families or friends close, but now it aims for something much bigger. He wants to be a place where people can learn about their civic duties and how to get involved.
Mark wants to have a community that is safe and offers support, that is informed and involved in the civic life. He can’t do that if people don’t get involved.
His only hope is to get mores committed into bringing humanity closer.
Zuckerberg’s letter is truly inspiring and shows the important things that need to be done in these particular tough times.
