The Saudi authorities closed their Al-Jazeera’s local offices on Monday night, although the headquarters were built by the Qatar government.
The decision was taken just hours after Riyadh and four other Islamic states announced the suspension of their diplomatic ties with Doha, AFP reports.
‘The Ministry of Information has closed Al Jazeera’s offices and withdrew its license’, Spa agency reported.
Founded over 20 years ago by the Qatar government, Al Jazeera has nearly 80 offices around the world and broadcasts in several foreign languages.
Television is, however, considered by some to be some sort of an advantageous method for Islamists to promote their ideals.
The decision was made a few hours after Saudi Arabia and four other states decided to permanently suspend their diplomatic relations with Doha.
Shortly after Saudi Arabia announced this, the Muslim state was followed by Bahrain, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and Yemen.
These Arab countries accuse the Qatari politicians of supporting and funding terrorist groups such as the Islamic and al-Qaeda states and Iranian militants fighting alongside the forces of the Bashar al-Assad regime.
Last month, the Egyptian authorities banned 21 websites, including the official Qatari website of Al-Jazeera.
Representatives of the five Arab countries said they would not allow citizens to visit or transit a Qatar airport.
Also, Qatari flights would not be able to pass through the airspace of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and Yemen.
