Assuming that Theresa May fails to win the majority, the possibility of ‘canceling’ the Brexit can become a harsh reality
If you guys believed the possibility of canceling the process means to return to the situation before the referendum, as if nothing had happened, the answer is ‘no’.
Considering Brexit was triggered through a referendum, only another one will be able to stop this, the experts claim.
Another referendum?
No party from the electoral race announced their plans to initiate another referendum in order to cancel UK’s exit from the European block and therefore none of their leaders required a mandate.
On the other hand, the Liberal Democrats just offered a subtle hint related to a second referendum but without mentioning the cause they are planning to vote for.
In order for a party to demand a mandate meant to overthrow the results of the first referendum, the government must require the entire nation to vote.
However, without a ‘special’ electoral mandate to stop Brexit, even if a government alliance was formed between Labor, Scottish and Liberal Democrats, the process of leaving the European Union will go further and the government will become forced to initiate the negotiation process.
If Theresa May will lose the election, there will still be some policy changes in the negotiation process.
But what if the Brexit negotiations will fail? If UK will not obtain a ‘profitable’ deal, can the government cancel Brexit?
Some Telegraph journalists say this would depend on three factors: the international laws, EU policy and, of course, British policy.
