US vice president, talks about the beginning of a “new era” in the space exploration field, promising the world an American crew will go into a mission on Mars and another one will return to the moon.
Recently designated to the leadership of the National Space Council, Pence visited the Kennedy Space Center in Florida and checked out the impressive production of space caps, developed by the private sector through a partnership with NASA.
“Our country will return to the moon and we will place the American boots on Mars”, Mike Pence has stated in front of the NASA staff, formed by 800 space industry experts and subcontractors.
The event was also attended by Buzz Aldrin, the second man who stepped on the Moon after Neil Armstrong.
Although his plans sound fascinating, the US vice president failed to offer further details regarding the projects.
This speech is a noteworthy change for Mike Pence, who in 2005 was at the head of a group affiliated with the Republican Party, who demanded the cancellation of the NASA’s Constellation.
NASA announced a few months ago they are working on a project called “Deep Space Gateway” to send astronauts into the lunar orbit with new missiles developed by the US space agency.
The astronauts’ deployment on Mars around 2030 is a top priority for the agency backed by Presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush.
