As the agreement between Sony and the James Bond franchise has expired in 2015, shortly after the launch of “Spectre”, new companies have expressed their interest in acquiring the James Bond franchise distribution rights.
Two of those companies are Amazon and Apple who decided to compete against Sony and Warner Bros. in the “battle” of obtaining the distribution rights.
Some remain faithful to their vision that movies must have a traditional production and distribution path.
Producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson from Eon are part of this category of people.
On the other hand, those who firmly believe that James Bond is one of the badly exploited brands (unlike Marvel, Pixar or Lucasfilm) is currently stuck in an era where good movies are being promoted in the most aggressive way.
Especially in the online environment, where the production companies are constantly releasing spin-offs and many other unnecessary things.
This is where Amazon and Apple are currently standing and both tech giants are, reportedly, willing to offer between $2 billion and $5 billion in order to get those distribution rights.
We are really curious who will win this fight and how the future of James Bond, one of the most loved and longest-running franchises, will transform into.
The 25th James Bond film will be released in 2019.
