The discussion between the British Prime-Minister Theresa May and Vladimir Putin was mostly focused on finding solutions in order improve the bilateral relations, severely affected by the unstable situations from Ukraine and Syria.
The meeting that took place during the G20 Summit in China was the first one-on-one encounter between the British state leader and the Russian president.
“Although I admit there are some differences between us, there are also areas of interest and matters that require further discussions. I truly hope we will have an honest and open dialogue”, declared May before the official meeting.
The political relation between Russia and Great Britain is mostly damaged due to the increasingly frequent Russian air traffic on UK’s territory.
“I hope we will bring our bilateral relations to a hall new level”, added Putin.
They also talked about terrorism and the fight against drug-traffic.
The Moscow-London relationship is obviously affected due to their divergent roles on the Ukraine and Syria issue and also Russian spy Aleksandr Litvinenko’s assassination that took place in London.
“Everybody understands that you and your team are dealing with challenging issues”, told Putin to May when it came to the Brexit matter.
The 11th G20 Summit was held in Hangzhou, Zhejiang on September 4 and 5. Leaders from G20 members, guest countries, and international organizations attended the summit at the invitation of President Xi Jinping. In the days before the G20 Hangzhou summit, only some vehicles were allowed through the city, construction sites were stopped and inhabitants received a week-long holidays.
