Syrian children’s drama does not seem to end. Children and teenagers from the besieged city Maday started to commit suicide to end the suffering endured, reports CNN. Earlier in this city, people were faced with starvation, being forced to eat dogs and cats to survive.
At least 13 children and youth tried to commit suicide in the past two months. This has not happened before the city was besieged, members of the organization said.
“Children are destroyed and tired psychologically. When we do activities with them, such as singing, they do not react at all. Do not laugh, as they normally do,” said a teacher from the city, in a report of the Organization.
Hundreds of people are suffering from psychological problems, including depression and aggravated paranoia.
Maday is a city where about 40,000 people live, is under siege since July last year. Moreover, nearby areas are mined, which makes sending aid even more difficult.
In addition to the mental problems, children in the city do not even get the basic medical treatment. The organization announces even that was even an area where more cases of meningitis were signaled.
Maday got the worldwide attention earlier this year after it emerged that people there die of hunger. Moreover, some of them began to eat dogs, cats, and even leaves and grass to survive.
For a time, the humanitarian convoys had access to the city. In the recent months though this was not possible and, humanitarian aid never reached Maday since April.
