The Tiraspol separatist regime leader Yevgeny Shevchuk signed a decree on the implementation of the 2006 referendum in which 97% of participants in the poll voted for independence of the region and it’s subsequent joining the Russian Federation.
More than 10 years after the referendum in 2006 in which most participants were in favor of the secessionist region independence and joining Russia, the Tiraspol leader decided to legalize the plebiscite and implementation of its results, writes Radio Chisinau on its web page.
According to the decree signed by it, setting the two objectives defined the vector of development of the region in the medium and long term.
According to the decree of Shevchuk, the Transnistrian legislation is urgently to be brought into line with that of Russia, suggesting that the Supreme Soviet in Tiraspol and the regional executive are to coordinate their activities to this end.
Chisinau authorities have not yet commented the action of the Tiraspol leader, but many experts, including the head of the Association of “Promo-Lex”, Ion Manole, describes the initiative as a populist one, given that in December in the region will be helda so-called presidential elections this wat Shevchuk trying to gain electoral capital.
Transnistria is in a geographical sense bounded by the shores of the Dniester for 800 km, 600 km from the shores of the Bug and 150 km from the coastline of the Black Sea.
“The ghost country”, officially recognized only by Russia, has a population of 550,000 people and is a great mystery to most of us, because it has no official relations with any other country, but with other self-declared countries like South Ossetia or Abkhazia.
