The North of Britain is battered by heavy rainfall and floods after some other parts of the country enjoyed the hottest day of the year registered so far, being the warmest day in September since 1911.
Sun seekers gathered in parks and beaches all over Britain to make the most of the heat wave which made the mercury rise to the breaking record of 34.4C in Gravesend, Kent and a bit lower, 32.8C, in Heathrow, London.
The forecast said that large swathes in the South of England and the Midlands got temperatures of 31C to ’32C in places’ – which means that parts of the United Kingdom are now warmer than Crete, Rome, Thailand, Madrid and Majorca.
In different parts of the country, however, it rained so hard and fast that a yellow weather warnings was issued by the Met Office for the North East, North West, Yorkshire and some parts of Scotland.
Images of the flood hitting regions of the North West bloomed since they were posted on the social media websites.
In Manchester, because of the heavy rain Manchester City was forced to call off the opening Champions League game which should have been played against Borussia Monchengladbach due to a waterlogged pitch. In other parts of the city, people were running to take cover using umbrellas and raincoats to protect them from the rain.
In a busy shopping place in the Market Street, central Manchester, there was a huge amount of water lapping one side of a tram stop. In another place, there were cars driving through big puddles on the roads, while a video was showing the water coming down from an escalator at the Manchester Piccadilly train station.
