Fidel Castro’s tomb, a main tourist attraction

The former leader of Cuba passed away on November 25 at the age of 90. Since then, his tomb has become a main tourist attraction.


His body was laid to rest at Santa Ifigenia Cemetery. Several figures paid their homages: princes from the Middle East, Latin presidents and thousands of tourists. It seems like a pilgrimage is held at his tomb.


His country now wonders how remembered he will be indeed, he is one of the most controversial personalities of the last century and this one.


According to a guide from the cemetery, he is a universal figure.


The country Castro used to rule is now struggling to modernize its economy, while its Government wants to take the control over it.


His funeral took place on the fourth of December. Since then, more than 150K tourists visited his grave. A lot of them appear daily. This increased the popularity of the place a lot. Before his death, only three hundred were estimated to visit daily.


For Cuba, this is now a national monument.


Fans are struggling to take pictures of the tomb or just a peek. Some come to pray for him, others bring flowers. He is still respected by a lot of people, in spite of the controversy.


A woman who has traveled 300 miles said that he feels like a father to all of them, he really meant a lot.


Although he hasn’t involved in the official issues for more than ten years, he constantly wrote letters about the problems concerning the state.


His brother is now in charge, Raul Castro. Some are skeptical about him. They knew that before he went to his brother for political advice.
