Vinci Hopeful At The Connecticut Open

Roberta Vinci has reached the pinnacle stage of the WTA tour as a doubles player alongside Sara Errani. Vinci is officially part of the premiere doubles team throughout the whole world. So far, Italy has racked up 25 tennis titles, including a whopping five Grand Slam winners.

It’s been 18 years since Vinci started with the tour. In that time she has been able to target her focus to success. She officially shook up the tennis world by beating Serena Williams in the US Open semifinals in 2015. Her win, shut out Williams, who is considered the best player in the world, from progressing to the Grand Slam.

Her doubles play isn’t the only expertise this tennis player has. This year, Vinci made it to the top 10 also in the singles world. Currently, the 33-year old player is in New Haven Connecticut preparing herself for another attempt at the US Open. She currently is the No. 2 seed for the open. She got to the top on Wednesday when she beat Ana Konjuh with a 6-2 and 6-2 win in the 2nd round. It was an exciting game between the two, if not short. It took 57-minutes and the winner was decided. Last year, Vinci had to go through three arduous qualifiers to get to the main draw in New Haven. In the end, though, she lost out to Caroline Wozniacki.

She stated that she has great memories though from last year. Though now, being at the top 10, she’s relieved to finally have made it. With her tennis play during the five matches at the Connecticut games, she will be well prepared for the final run. Though she is at an age when other players are settling their retirement plans, she is still out there having fun and playing the sport she loves.
