The Bolivian deputy interior minister was kidnaped by a group of protesting miners and beaten to death.

According to Bolivian press, the protesters are extremely dangerous and the government is struggling to recover Rodolfo Illanes’s body.

Following his kidnapping, the Bolivian government stated that the miners were planning to torture the 56-year-old in their headquarters, based in hometown Panduro, south of capital La Paz.

“All the indications are that our deputy minister Rodolfo Illanes has been brutally and cowardly assassinated,” said minister of government Carlos Romero on Thursday.

The mine workers decided to protest after the Bolivian government imposed a series of extremely disadvantageous legislative changes.

One of their requests is the right to create a trade union, the right to work for private and greater union representation.

The Bolivian government denied the requests, claiming that they only want to obtain mining leases, which is expressly forbidden by the Constitution.

Rodolfo Illanes was headed to Panduro to negotiate with the miners. Instead, he was kidnapped and brutally assassinated.

Following the horrific incident, almost 120 miners were taken into custody, including the killers, revealed Defense Minister Reymi Ferreira.

“This crime will not go unpunished. Authorities are investigating … around 100 people have been arrested,” added Ferreira.

Earlier this week, Bolivia became a battlefield, where law enforcements and protesters are smashing everything in their way.

Several miners were killed and 20 police officers are severely wounded.

Local media also reported Illanes’ death, citing a radio station director who claimed he saw his body
