Germany announced their new plan to stockpile food and water in case of a terror attack or catastrophe.

The national civil defense plan was an official request from NATO.

Last month, an official report from the German Ministry of Defense highlighted a possible threat coming from Russia, a country that “questioned the peace of Europe in a very open manner”, especially after the annexation of Crimea in 2014.

The major defense plan suggests military troops should benefit from the civilian support, the best managing of the health system and the consolidation of several buildings.

A spokesman for the German Ministry of Internal Affairs confirmed that the government will adopt the “civil defense strategy” without offering further details.

In a case of an unexpected attack on the German territory, people will have a ten day supply of food and water.

“We have to encourage people to stockpile food for ten days and water for five days”, added an official from the German Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Although, military measures were never a concern for the German state, in July the Berlin government decided to handle the issue.

The German government is considering bringing back compulsory military service as it eyes possible security threats facing the country.

The German state adopted the new security measures after the terrorist attacks from last month. Another strong reason is the tension between the NATO military alliance and Russia.

According to News.com.au, several opposition parties considered the civil defense plan an unnecessary measure.
