Northwest Ohio was the touchdown of several tornadoes this Wednesday evening, being spotted in more than a couple of towns where there were buildings damaged, downed power lines and uprooted trees.
While performing in Toledo, the well-known rock band KISS was interrupted during their performance.
‘Believe it or not–tornado right over our heads at the concert. People from the street coming into the hall. The show has been stopped! #Toledo ‘, tweeted Gene Simmons, the bass player of the band.
Also, several mobile homes were affected near Napoleon, Defiance, and Paulding. There were no victims, only a man who suffered some minor injuries.
A number of around 20 tornadoes were spotted in Paulding, Defiance, Putnam, Lucas, Henry and Van Wert counties.
The approximate time the tornadoes appeared was between 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm.
Eyewitnesses say some of them were even 300 yards wide and more.
Almost all of Northwest Ohio stayed under the tornado watch until 11:00 pm.
The storms were not singular, belonging to a severe weather system which caused problems not only in Ohio but also in Indiana.
A tornado is a very strong wind acting on a complex form of reduced air swirl, being frequently spotted throughout North America where is also called a twister.
The wind rotates around a vertical axis in the atmosphere, which is in line with the movement of the air convection. It is accompanied by dark storm clouds (cumulus and cumulonimbus). The whirlwind rises from the earth’s surface to the clouds.
In the case of a tornado, listen consistently the news issued by the radio and television, avoid elevators, if you are in the house stay inside, away from windows and glass doors. Purchase extra few flashlights with spare batteries, avoid lighting the candles or oil lamps, if electric voltage decreases, close most electric appliances in order to save more energy, using only what is absolutely necessary.
