Two men were taken into custody on Monday after police said they went up the “Dancing With the Stars” podium when it was live and tried to confront Ryan Lochte.
The event was not captured on camera but it occurred while Judge Carrie Ann Inaba was criticizing Lochte and Cheryl Burke, his dance partner.
The ABC News reported two men that came on the stage but were taken down by the security guards. The show immediately moved to commercials, after which Tom Bergeron said that the show was interrupted by “a little incident.”
An officer from the Los Angeles Police Department declared the two men, Sam Sododeh, 48 years old, and Barzeen Soroudi, 40, had tickets with places on the ABC show. They appeared to have planned everything, Mike Lopez, the police officer said.
“The suspects posed as audience members and then changed clothes to display anti-Lochte T-shirts to disrupt the show,” Lopez declared.
The men went in front of the cameras after leaving their places. There was no physical contact between them and Lochte or Burke, the officer said.
The two were initially held by the private security from the studio, later being handed over to the custody of LAPD.
There was also a group of women who also wore anti-Lochte clothing and jeered while the security was detaining the men.
After the scene, Lochte told Bergeron, “So many feelings are going through my head right now.”
Lochte stated he was “a little hurt,” adding: “I came out here. I didn’t want to do something I wasn’t completely comfortable with and I did.”
