At least 24 people were severely injured and other three passengers are in a critical condition after a car accident involving a bus packed with foreign passengers took place in Barcelona, on Wednesday morning.

The accident took place on a ring road, while they were heading to the El Prat airport. The victims were rushed to the nearest hospitals, including the bus driver.

The passengers were from Ireland, UK, Germany, Poland, Lithuania, Belarus and Spain. According to Spanish media, the Eros Bus Travel left Lloret de Mar and headed to the airport when it starting pouring.

The rain, which transformed into a literal storm caused troubles to the driver, who lost the control of the vehicle, which overturned near the peripheral road. Seven ambulances came to the rescue.

Three of the injured were reported to be in a serious condition after the bus crashed at around 3.10am, during the heavy rain, an emergency services spokesperson said.

The images shared on social media have shown the bus, flipped over on its side, with numerous ambulances attending the scene.

On the most southerly part of the Costa Brava, lies the town of Lloret de Mar. With a deep seaside tradition, today it is one of the largest tourist centres on Girona’s sea front. Beaches and coves with clear water combine with an interesting historic centre and a wide range of accommodation and leisure. Walking, golf, and water sports are some of the possibilities offered by the excellent temperatures of the Mediterranean climate.
