Pope Francis: “Killing in the name of God is satanic!”

“Killing in the name of God is satanic,” said Pope Francis in the job that he officiated on Wednesday morning in memory of the French priest Jacques Hamel killed by ISIS militants in July. The Pontiff spoke about the French cleric as “a kind and gentle man” who kept his lucidity until the last moment and had the courage to oppose the attackers.

On Wednesday morning Pope Francis held a service in memory of the French priest killed by jihadists in the church of Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvray, near Rouen, calling him a martyr and strongly condemning the attack, showing that it is “satanic” to pretend to kill in God’s name, informs France Presse.

“It would be so nice if all religions would say in unison, that the act of killing in God’s name is satanic,” said Pope Francis, at the diocese of Rouen, in front of nearly 100 pilgrims.

 

In the chapel of Santa Marta, where prelates were held every day from 07:00, was shown a photograph of Father Jacques Hamel, aged 85 years. The Pope appointed him a “martyr” and deplored the situation of many Christians who are persecuted “because they did not deny Christ.”

“In the Christian Church martyrs are today more than in the first centuries, Christians suffering are imprisoned, tortured or killed for refusing to deny Christ. These acts of cruelty are, so to speak, directly satanic,” declared the Pope.

 

He spoke about the French Father as a ” kind and gentle” man who managed to be lucid until the last moment and oppose the attackers “At that hard time that he was living (…) has not lost his lucidity to say his assassin’s name. He said clear: Go away, Satan!”.

In July, two ISIS militants came in a church situated in a quiet neighborhood of St-Etienne-du-Rouvray and killed the priest aged 85 years who officiated there. A nun witnessed the attack and told him that a man forced the priest to kneel while they recorded the murder, speaking in Arabic with his accomplice.
