The latest researches show that having one glass of wine per day will reduce the chances of conceiving.
Researchers agreed that alcohol can interrupt the natural cycle of a woman and even damage the egg, although in small amounts it will not be harmful for it is no certain evidence it hampers fertility.
A number of 6120 women were studied by the Danish researchers. They were aged between 21 and 45 years old and they were all trying to conceive. The study lasted from 2007 until January 2016 and they had to complete questionnaires about how much alcohol they had.
It seems that women who had more than 250 ml of wine per day had 18% less chances of conceiving over a year.
Having less than that, with less than 13 servings per week, had no problems whatsoever.
The study also revealed that spirits are also harmful when it comes to conceiving. It shows that having one measure per week reduces the chances of having a baby with 11 percent while having two, with 13 percent.
Scientist suggest that a woman should avoid drinking and be teetotal when it comes to alcohol when trying to conceive and during the pregnancy for it could harm the fetus.
‘However, it would be wise to avoid binge drinking, both for the potential disruption to menstrual cycles and also for the potential harm to a baby during early pregnancy. If a couple are experiencing difficulties in conceiving, it makes sense for both partners to cut down on their alcohol intake,’ Annie Britton, expert in alcohol consumption at the University College London, suggests.
