Several people were injured and several went missing on Monday after a crane crashed over a four-storey building in the northern city of Tel Aviv in Israel, said the police and the medical teams, according to AFP, Xinhua, and DPA.
Ten others injured in the incident were treated at a nearby hospital.
According to a spokesman for the fire brigade, part of the three-tiered structure has collapsed, causing the collapse of a crumbling building crane and garage.
Some of the nine people who are locked inside the building had contact with the search teams announced Magen David Adom from the ambulance service.
Wounded, slightly affected, were evacuated. There are several workers who worked on the site but are nowhere to be found at the moment, police said, without specifying their number.
According to the local media, the intervention teams were trying to save at least 20 people who were trapped inside the building.
“There are people buried under the sand,” said a spokesman for the Firefighter department, Yoram Levy.
Among the injured, one has a fractured leg and was wounded at the head. The rest of the victims had mild or moderate injuries.
The roads around the site were closed to allow access for the emergency vehicles in emergency situations. Numerous teams of paramedics, police and fire are on the scene.
Work accidents with fatalities are common in Israel because of inadequate regulations, writes i24news.
A number of 28 workers lost their lives in the first six months of the year, of which 16 worked in construction sites. In the same period last year, eight construction workers lost their lives in workplace accidents.
