At least three people died in the massive floods and the emergency teams are struggling to save as many victims as they can.
The last storm flooded various hometowns in Greece and the most affected one is Kalamata, based in the south-western region of the country.
According to BBC, a woman is missing after she abandoned her destroyed house in northern Greece.
According to Greek newspaper Proto Thema, a woman and two children, that took shelter in a vehicle were almost swept by the Karavatsi river that overflowed. The floods have also affected the area of Thessaloniki, where numerous cars and properties were damaged.
‘I have never seen anything like it,’ The Kalamata Mayor Panagiotis Nikas told Reuters. ‘About 140 millimeters of rain fell in an hour this morning … It hasn’t stopped raining since yesterday at lunchtime.’ added the man.
The horrifying images shared on social media show vehicles stacked on top of each other on the flooded streets of Kalamata, the second most populous city in the southern Peloponnese region.
In Mihaniona, the rescuers are searching for a woman in her sixties whose car was found abandoned after her husband said she had become trapped by the rising waters.
According to Associated Press, a woman aged 80 and another in her sixties were found dead in their basement in Kalamata. Apparently, the basement was flooded and the women couldn’t make it.
The water destroyed everything and the mayor requires the municipality to be placed under a state of emergency.
