Time is fading away on President Obama’s presidency so the Essence magazine had a special September cover to commemorate it featuring Barack Obama and his first lady Michelle Obama.
In the cover story, the two reflect eloquently on what the last 8 years meant to them.
“I think when it comes to Black kids, it means something for them to have spent most of their life seeing the family in the White House look like them,” said Mrs. Obama.
“It matters. All the future work that Barack talked about, I think over these last few years, we’ve kind of knocked the ceiling of limitation off the roofs of many young kids; imaginations of what’s possible for them. And as a mother, I wouldn’t underestimate how important that is, having that vision that you can really do anything—not because somebody told you, but because you’ve seen and experienced it. I think that will be a lasting impact on our kids.”
As a notable moment for him, the president recalled My Brother’s Keeper, which was a program he launched which had the purpose of empowering young men and boys of color.
“For me, things like My Brother’s Keeper,” he said. “That’s something I’m confident we’ll be continuing after we leave.”
When the cover first hit the internet, the people were definitely talking about one special photo in particular which shows the two in a very romantic posture.
Barack and Michelle Obama’s marriage is stated as 18 October 1992, which some reliable sources say it’s not correct, claiming that 3 October 1992 is the right date.
