Because of the wildfires that started near the coast of Xabia in Costa Blanca, thousands have been evacuated.
As dramatic images of the fire emerged on the internet, the authorities fear it is something manmade.
Already 20 homes had vanished in the flames, while people are evacuated in nearby schools and hostels.
According to some sources, a group of 15 year-olds has been made responsible for the fires and is taken into custody.
‘This is crazy. I think my car and maybe my apartment is on fire,’ said Chris Stark, a BBC Radio 1 presenter, who later also said that he is safe but that the ‘inferno’ was ‘scary’.
More than 200 firefighters along with 65 vehicles are currently fighting to stop the blaze.
As the authorities are hoping that the wind that is fanning the flames to drop, the temperatures in the area reached 36 degree Celsius, meaning 96.8 Fahrenheit.
On Sunday the authorities said they almost had the fire under control but as soon as the water-dumping aircraft stopped throwing water at sundown, the fire emerged again and made the evacuations necessary.
One British tourist described the blaze as ‘horrendous’ and later posted on Twitter: ‘I’ve never seen anything like it. Really scary. Still got helicopters going over with water. Flames were from one mountain to another. There are hundreds of cars taking pictures.’
As the flames got closer and closer, localities like Tossalet, Benitatxell and Cansalades were also evacuated, stated the local police.
Many of the tourists were British, some of them only at the beginning of a nice holiday.
