The American journalist was arrested in Turkey after being accused of illegal trespassing in a military zone.

According to BBC, Lindsay Snell was arrested in August and incarcerated at the Hatay prison.

U.S. Government official John Kirby said that Washington is negotiating with the Turkish authorities in order to bring Lindsay home.

Apparently, in July the journalist was abducted by a group of Jabhat al-Nusra militants and managed to escape after a few weeks.

The Yeni Safak newspaper wrote that Lindsay Snell was detained near the Syrian border.

“An American journalist was caught while trying to cross the border illegally. She was put on probation and incarcerated. The lawsuit is in full progress. So far, we are not sure if she is a spy or not”, revealed the Hatay Governor Ercan Topoca for Anadolu Agency.

According to Kirby, no one knows the real reason behind Snell’s attempt to travel to Syria or if her profession as a journalist had anything to do with it.

During her career as a journalist, Lindsay Snell created numerous journalistic coverage for VICE, ABC News, Discovery, and Yahoo News.

According to her Facebook page, Snell is a native of Daytona, Florida, and had been living in Istanbul.

In her most recent Facebook post on 5 August, Snell claimed that she was held in a cave prison by militants, but obtained permission to film in their territory in Syria.

According to BBC, after she moved in Istanbul Lindsay Snell decided to convert to Islam.
