Day after day during this long summer, the same wonderful picture was played in the Mediterranean. Poor boats, many that weren’t even seaworthy groaning with migrants including children and women, made their way to the coast of Italy.
Sometimes they were intercepted by vessels of the military from a European nation to another, which includes Britain, the passengers being pulled to safety. All the ships come from Libya, but the people are not going back there but deposited on the shore. Instead, migrants are sent to Italy, where the majority seeks to make get into central Europe, especially in Germany or the United Kingdom.
Sometimes people hail these rescues naming them ‘miracle’ escapes. But it is not the complete story. In the destroyed by war Libya, there is a much more disturbing and complex truth. The so-called boat people are actually a part of a business worth billions of pounds operated by the Islamic extremists.
It is just another visible sign of chaos which was engulfed in Libya ever since David Cameron’s government used the RAF to depose Colonel Gaddafi back in 2011. During the week, the Commons foreign affairs select committee put the blame for Libya’s disastrous collapse into anarchy and violent disorder, with the result of the Islamic State rising there — only on David Cameron.
The report stated that the intervention which was carried out joining forces with the French air force was undertaken without any exhaustive intelligence analysis which led without any formal planning to a change in the regime and failed when it comes to its moral responsibility in helping to reconstruct Libya after Gaddafi fell.
