The total “bill” for the reconstruction of Texas after Hurricane Harvey could reach 180 billion dollars, the governor has announced, according to BBC News. The hurricane has caused devastating floods and the deaths of dozens of people.

Hurricane Harvey struck Texas a week ago, killing 47 people, about 43.000 residents lost their homes and most of them are currently living in foster homes.

Before the hurricane struck the state, the governor has declared a state of emergency, asking the Congress for an initial $7.85 billion for the applications of aid.

However, now after the natural disaster has destroyed almost everything, he said Harvey’s damage would require between $150 and $180 billion.

“The geographical area and the residents affected by this horrific hurricane are way more significant than the damage caused by Katrina which cost the state over 120 billion dollars”, told Greg Abbott for Fox News on Sunday.

In 2005, Hurricane Katrina swept through Louisiana, a neighboring state with Texas, destroying the city of New Orleans.

Homeland Security White House Adviser Tom Bossert has announced that aid applications will be resolved in stages after the entire situation will become better assessed.
