A otherwise different Steven Seagal welcomed the competitors from 40 countries who took part in the World Games of nomads.
The event was organized in Kyrgyzstan, a Central Asian country, which was part, until 1991, of the Soviet Union.
The “ardent” horsemen and fanfare opened the competition which aims to keep alive the cultural heritage of the nomads. Steven Seagal took part at the event as well. The American actor, wearing the armor of a Kyrgyz warrior appeared in a spectacular way.
“In the modern world, people forget their roots. And there is a danger of the disappearance of unique cultures. Environmental destruction has catastrophic consequences. And we should heed and learn something of the attitude of the nomads towards the surrounding world living in harmony with the nature” said Almazbek Atambaiev, the president of Kyrgyzstan.
A number of 40 countries, including Russia, USA, Argentina, Brazil and Germany sent their representatives to the games who competed in 23 trials inspired by the life and customs of the nomadic tribes.
For example, Kok-boru, meaning gray wolf, is a game that dates back to ancient times when men went horseback riding to hunt wolves attacking their animals. The objective of the race was, this time, throwing a goat or sheep (not alive) to the opponent’s field.
At the wrestling competitions, in one of the trials, two brave men have struggled to take from each other’s hands a stick.
This year was the second edition of the event. Let’s hope there will be more of it because it sounds like a really nice event.
