Erica Schulte and Ashley Gearhardt from the University of Michigan tried to discover a potential link between drug addiction and food.

Gearhardt Schulte revealed his most recent study, in which 504 people helped him to discover which foods are the most appealing to them.

‘Although the factors that favorize obesity are multiple, the most significant aspect is that certain foods may trigger addiction in some people, which leads to an unintentional over-alimentation’, says one of the researchers.

The two scientists also tried to find out how gender and human body mass could influence the addiction. They discovered that men with a higher BMI crave to a wider range of foods that create dependency.

Initially, chocolate topped the list of foods that generate addiction, but researchers we’re not fully convinced by the results. They conducted new studies on 384 greedy guts, who were asked to evaluate certain foods on a scale from 1 to 7.

Pizza became number one the list, with a total score of 4,07 points, while chocolate and French fries we’re the next.

On the dependency scale, they were surprised to find out that people also crave for cucumbers, carrots, and beans. Interestingly, the coffee was not found on the list.

Milk and cheese were also studied for their addictive effects. In the present, people eat five times more cheese than two decades ago. In addition, there are some people who consume dairy at every single meal.

According to Gearhardt, women are more predisposed to become addicted to certain foods than men.

“Women have the tendency to refrain from certain products, making major excesses afterward”, added the scientist.
