As what was a great year for pop music ends we remain with a lot of hit songs but many good quality undiscovered gems remain in the shadows, not getting the props they deserve.
Here are some of the things that should have dominated the charts but for some reason or other remained in obscurity.
“Cruel” by Foxes
The vocalist from the group Zedd, released an album this year, “All I Need”, from which the song “Cruel” was surely one of the best.
“Superlove” by Tinashe
The star from “2 ON” has taken a strong step towards rhythmic pop with this forgotten single from 2016
“Hotter Than Hell” by Dua Lipa
One of the many songs released by the British singer this year that should have topped the worldwide charts.
“Love Me Like That” by The Knocks feat. Carly Rae Jepsen
The New York duo the Knocks pair up with the queen of underrated pop Carly Rae Jepsen to deliver a dizzying glamourous ‘80s strut that pulls back when you think it’s going to explode.
“Inhale Exhale” by NAO
With a funk riff so effortless, this song from NAO’s “For All We Know” album should have been a regular Top 40 contender.
“Old Habits Die Hard” by Allie X
Delivered by Allie X, whom Katy Perry named a “pop genius”, is an experimental icy banger.
“U-Turn” by Tegan and Sara
Returning after a three-year break, her last outing being their album “Heartthrob”, “Love You to Death” album brings one of Tegan and Sara’s most underrated but strong song “U-Turn.”
