In a news story that may seem ‘curious’, a South Korean disabled employee had stolen 8474 phones from the Samsung headquarters.
According to the local press, the man tried to sell them in order to pay a gambling debt.
The total cost of the devices he had stolen was 630.000 euros and his gambling debt was of 710.000 euros.
The former employee was arrested before he could pay the massive debt so the amount that he must cover just became twice as big.
According to the authorities, the man was identified only by his surname: Lee, a disabled person who can only travel by a wheelchair.
Sammobile.com wrote the incident occurred at Samsung’s Suwon headquarters and Lee stole the devices between December 2014 and November 2016.
However, according to his managers, the devices he had snatched were intended for sale, but they were used by Samsung’s developers to test various updates and new features.
South Korean company hired Lee in 2010
His hiring was part of a special program, when Samsung offered numerous jobs to people with disabilities.
His task was to operate and provide maintenance services for the aforementioned phones so that they could be used by developers for a longer period.
The South Korean company reported the theft last December after discovering that several experimental terminals were exported to Vietnam.
