Elio Motors has just started pre-orders for the E1A. The EIA is three-wheeled and two seater car. It was crowd-funded with $25 million through Start Engine in the year 2015. As at 2015, the company revealed that the price of the car would be $6,800; on retail, however, the pre-orders for the beauty starts at a higher price of $7,000. This price is just for the base model of the car. The company has no fixed delivery date on the vehicle yet.
Elio Motors insist that those who intend to pre-order the car from the company are required sign a binding agreement.
Those interested in the “binding commitment” offer from the company will have to pay in a nonrefundable sum of $7,000. The commitment ensures that those ordering will have to purchase the car irrespective of any delay and cannot change their minds.
Those opting for the second offer will need to sign a form that ensures that they will buy the vehicle irrespective of the time it will be put up for sale. The second offer would sell at $7,300. Although the second offer is also non-refundable, it doesn’t commit the customer like the former
With the current engineering models and materials calculations, Elio Motors locks in the base price until they hit the 65,000 total reservations. This price supports their vision and provides the cheapest vehicle option on the global market.
It is not yet clear if Elio Motors will increase the price for the car after this milestone. Currently, the company has 56,000 people who have pre-ordered the vehicle, and the price could most likely change once it crosses the 65,000 target.
The company is offering customers who fall in the “refundable” category the option to switch to a no refund reservation. Taking this offer means that they would also enjoy other benefits like the 25 percent reservation bonus, bumper sticker, and a beautiful limited edition T-shirt. Refundable reservation holders have an advantage over non-refundable reservation holders as they have the privilege of getting the vehicle first, and also getting the deposit amount back if they canceled their reservation.
