On Wednesday pro-government militiamen captured the Libyan city of Surt which has been under the control of the Islamic State for over a year. To this end, the militants’ headquarters from which more than 150 miles of Libyan coastline were controlled was lost.

However, a major breakthrough was recorded on Friday by the American military drones when Islamic State militants were seen loading up hundreds of trucks, buses, and cars with both civilians and fighters in a bid to flee the city of Manbij, Syria.

While Syrian rebels are making significant advancements, the extremists, on the other hand, are losing more strongholds. Obviously, these remarkable victories against ISIS could hamper their efforts to infiltrate the West.

As far as the war in Syria is concerned, Manbij is the largest city the Islamic State has lost in Syria. The fall of Manbij to the Syrian rebels would probably deprive the extremists from accessing Turkey from Syria, as it is one of the two major crossings by which foreign jihadists had joined the group in Syria and when they want to leave for European destinations, this is still one of the major routes they try again.

The United States has been significantly involved in the battles in Syria and Libya. From makeshift command posts located several miles away, the battle in Syria is monitored by most of the 300 American Special Forces advisers. Despite having a prewar population of 100,000, Manbij experienced more than 100 airstrikes orchestrated by the American military. In some days, over 20 airstrikes were could be launched.

According to reports obtained from residents who were reached by telephone and Skype, it is confirmed that the extremists were actually on the run. It was also revealed that a convoy of about 2,000 vehicles managed to evacuate the extremists (fighters and civilians) from Manbij.
