According to AFP, in order to create the human shield, the extremists kidnapped more than 2,000 civilians.

Currently, the anti-terrorist units are pursuing more than 200 Jihadists, who used the inhabitants from Manbij as shields to prevent coalition airstrikes from destroying their forces.

Before they left the Syrian border city, the rebels got into their trucks and motorbikes and traveled north towards Turkey.

Although the US anti-terrorist units could’ve wiped off the hall convoy in a matter of minutes, they were not able to intervene because of the civilians.

“He had to treat them as non-combatant persons. We didn’t shot, we just looked.”, stated American Colonel Chris Garver.

According to the American official, most prisoners from the convoy were released on Saturday.

‘They kept throwing civilians to basically walk into the line of fire, trying to get them shot to use that potentially as propaganda, we think.’, added Gover.

After losing their supremacy of Manbij, the Islamic State members also gave up on the crossroad that allowed them to transport money, guns,

and people in Turkey.

The Syrian Democratic Forces posted the images after they received the US government approval.

They managed to take over the control in the Syrian border city last week, after a two-month fight with the rebels, which ended with their mass departure.

Manbij was considered one of ISIS headquarters because is located on an important supply route between the Turkish border and city of Raqqa.
