Sony"s PlayStation Now Service Set For Release

After much demand, Sony has been hard at work on a PlayStation service that will allow gamers to enjoy their wide range of games on their PC or Mac. This expansion has already started to take place with the release of the PlayStation 4 and the inclusion of the Remote Play Client.

Those who own the aforementioned console can enjoy streaming game play on their laptop computer or their desktop. While gaming publications have claimed that Sony will finally make the big announcement on August 23, the company has already begun to send out PS event invitations for September 7.

Most had believed that this event would focus on the unveiling of the PlayStation Neo, but there is a prevailing sense that both of these projects will be unveiled at the event. The invitation itself was somewhat light on the details, only letting invitees know that they were welcome to come to a “PlayStation meeting”.

The PlayStation Now streaming service gives users the chance to play their favorite PS2 and PS3 games on their PS4, in addition to the PS Vita handheld console. Over 400 gaming titles will be available to subscribers, at a rate of $20 per month, although a $45 per three months package is also an option.

Users do not need powerful hardware in order to stream their games and an Internet connection that can handle 12 megabits each second will work just fine. Players who do not wish to spend the aforementioned amounts for the monthly service can rent games at a rate of $3 per every four hours and this rate can climb as high as $15 per 90 days.

As of press time, the PlayStation Now desktop version is still in the beta testing phase.
