A lot has happened with Twitter in terms of unwanted content and comments. The company announced that it is creating a “quality filter” for implementation. This will be a tool available to all users who are able to hide tweets that contain spam, undesired materials, insults or threats. The feature has been available however it was privy to only those with “verified” accounts. Usually, these equate to those who public figures, celebrities or journalists. There is a special blue checkmark next to the user’s name that signifies their “verified” status.

Now, due to problems with many celebrities and they are speaking out against Twitter commenters, the feature is being offered to everyone. A company spokesman stated via a blog post that the filter isn’t meant to hide content from other users—those the person is following or who the person has interacted with. Rather, it will only affect the user who chooses to filter them out.

Users will also be able to see just the notifications from accounts that they follow through Twitter. Twitter, of course, is the famous 140-character social media platform that allows users to post and then followers to comment. Recent celebrities have spoken out against the media due to barrages of negative comments and threats they have received due to their posts or actions. Many get into twitter wars with people. As has been recently happening, threats can escalate and create potentially dangerous situations.

More celebrities have reached out to Twitter CEOs to find viable solutions to the abuse that is rife on Twitter for negative comments. They were given the ability to filter out content. However, this is the first step the company has made to offer everyone a method to do so based on the content they do not want to view. Using the tool will block the tweets from being read, however, the tweets will not be deleted.
