Barack Obama has been the president of the United States for the past eight years. People admire him a lot and now even more as he is about to leave the Oval Office.
The soon to be ex-president beat Donald Trump as the most admired man this year, although Trump was a very popular figure in politics this year.
The Gallup poll has ranked Barack Obama for the ninth time in a row the most admired man of America.
Hillary Clinton, Trump’s rival at the elections, is the most admired woman in US for 15 years in a row and in total, she was given this position for 21 times.
In 1993, when it was her first year as a First Lady, Clinton received this title. The only times she lost it was in 1995 and 1996 to Mother Teresa an in 2001 for Laura Bush, that year’s First Lady.
In the poll, the second most admired woman is Michelle Obama and in the men category, Donald Trump was the second one too.
Obama was mentioned by 22%, Clinton by 12%, while Donald by 15% of the respondents.
After Obama was granted the honor, Trump posted a message on Twitter criticizing the actual president.
The numbers Trump scored are not better than the ones Obama had in 2008 (32%), but did exceed George W. Bush with his 5% support in 2000. In 2015, Trump got only a third of the number of support he received this year.
1028 adults were part of the poll that took place from December 7 to December 11.
