While staying for the holidays at his retreat in Florida, President Elect Donald Trump met privately with several visitors and told them that he is working on the first draft for his upcoming inauguration speech and is looking to draw inspiration from Ronald Reagan and John F. Kennedy.
The speech, which will be given on January 20, will have parts of Reagan’s famous style and Kennedy’s articulation of grand national ambitions. He said he is personally much more involved into the writing process of this speech than any speeches before, working hard alongside his aide and speechwriter Stephen Miller.
This was revealed during a lunch meeting that took place in his Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach, Florida, where among the guests present were names like historian Douglas Brinkley, columnist Margaret Carlson, Democratic lobbyist Thomas Quinn and CEO of Newsmax Media Christopher Ruddy.
As the media and political celebrities were enjoying the lunch, Trump, who is staying at the resort for most of the December, has made trips to the room so he can speak with every person in the attendance.
According to an insider in Trump’s entourage, he is “enamored with Reagan’s confident style and how he connected with the country. He went on and on about Reagan and how much he admires him. But it wasn’t all about Reagan. He spoke about Kennedy and how he was able to get the country motivated, to go to the moon. He’s thinking about both me as he starts to write the speech, which is something he’s now taking the lean on.”
